Low Vision Eye Care |
||
| Low vision problems range from legal blindness to any vision impairment that, even with conventional prescription lenses, prevents the patient from enjoying a desired visual activity with clear vision. Low vision may be due to a congenital or inherited eye defect such as albinism, retinitis pigmentosa, optic atrophy or nystagmus. If the visual problem develops later in life, the cause is likely to be glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration or diabetes. In some cases, as with glaucoma or diabetes, loss of vision can be minimized or controlled through early diagnosis or treatment. The goal of low vision care is to maximize our patient's functional use of any remaining vision after visual damage has occurred. One of Dr. Beverly Miller's areas of expertise is Low Vision Care, with the goal of amplifying remaining vision so that patients can perform desired visual tasks. Dr. Miller has helped many low vision patients see and perform better in their lives with low vision optical aid devices ranging from simple magnifying lenses to sophisticated electronic magnification systems. Non-optical low vision aids include large print materials, enhanced illumination, and filters. Dr. Miller will do a comprehensive eye examination in addition to the more specific low vision evaluation utilizing microscopic and telescopic visual aids. |
